The focus of EAA Chapter 1177, founded in 1997, is aviation awareness and education. Our meetings are generally held on the third Wednesday of each month, at 7:00pm, in the Palmyra Municipal Airport (88C) clubhouse. (Check our event calendar for possible changes.) These meetings often include special guest speakers talking about any number of aviation related subjects.
In addition, each year, on the first Sunday in May, we hold an EAA Young Eagles Rally. Where we fly, on average, 70 kids ages 8 through 17. To date the chapter has given free airplane rides to more than 800 area youngsters. We also support other youth activities. Such as "88 Charlies" a local "restore-a-plane" program that uses aviation as a tool to teach boys and girls a variety of different skills.
And this year, 2012, a few chapter members have begun an aircraft building project. The aircraft of choice is Leonard Milholland's 'Double Eagle'. A simple design, the DE is meant to provide an affordable and fun flying experience. We invite anyone with an interest, in building and/or flying, just for the fun it, to come out and join us.
Also, in early October the chapter hosts the Fall Colors Fly-In/Drive-In Pancake Breakfast, open to the public. This annual fly-in, which features what is arguably the best pancakes in all of southeastern Wisconsin, has grown each of the last few years, with upwards of 100 aircraft, from ultralights, to vintage & antiques, to former military trainers and liaison aircraft, all in attendance.
Come and join us and learn how EAA "Puts the Fun in Flying"
